Most persons these days still view programming or coding as a highly technical or nerdy activity which only a few individuals can actually master. On the contrary, coding is getting to be the new type of literacy and is one which is especially useful in today’s highly digital world. For most persons, a basic level of programming will make it easier to use a smartphone, PC or manage files across diverse platforms. Consider all of these benefits of learning to program especially at a young age when your kids are very precocious.

1. EDUCATIONAL BENEFITS

Elementary education involves the use of computers in testing and other activities, but it is a scarce school curriculum which includes computer programming. Of recent, several schools have begun adding computer programming activities to the school curriculum. This kind of education helps the kids to learn the workings of a computer. Few rival the feeling of telling a computer what do and this helps improves the child’s self-worth and confidence. This foundation can make your kids prepared for a lifetime of successful use and management of the technology in everyday life.

2. COMPUTATIONAL THINKING

The ability to communicate your thoughts in a structured and logical way is known as computational thinking. This thought process is akin to the step by step instructions which are coded into a computer. It is also the process of thinking up and solving the problems in a methodical way which can be replicated by a machine. Computer programmers , software engineers, and logistics specialists use this method of thinking to solve problems. Computational thinking is a combination of logic, algorithm, and advanced mathematics. The development of computational thinking involves considering a problem and breaking it into simple, actionable steps. Each of these steps is handled in the most efficient way possible, and there is an element of abstraction in computational thinking which allows your child to progress from a specific solution to a particular problem and apply it in other situations. The result is a paradigm shift in the way they view their world.

3. CREATIVE AND FLUID THINKING

Kids have innovative and fluid minds which allow them to think more unconventionally. The never ending problems which they come across in coding inspire their minds to grow. Coding can be likened to a story; there is a logical beginning, progression and ending to the story of the program. These skills can equip your kids with skills to attain success in written and oral communication in school.

4. JOB OPPORTUNITIES

To be competitive in the future job market, literacy in technology is a must and not having these skills is comparable to being illiterate. Most jobs require a basic knowledge of IT and even the simpler jobs like retail and fast food sales require the use of computers and technology. Coding specialists are among the best-paid individuals and the opportunities for persons with these skills will expand in the future.
